about me... have you ever felt an irresistible pull toward something that just consumed your thoughts? Like many, I’ve found myself lost in my own thoughts and feelings on the state of our world. With so much occurring beyond my control, my tendency to overthink EVERYTHING has intensified.
around this time, I began experiencing dreams about sewing. From fabric to thread and needles, it felt as if sewing was haunting my subconscious. Soon, these thoughts began to invade my waking hours.
it wasn’t until I searched for something my kids needed that I discovered a stack of old fabric my grandmother had given me “just in case” a few years before her passing. That’s when it struck me—now was the time to pick up a needle and start sewing. I had everything I needed, from my artwork to the tools and foundational skills to build upon. I didn’t question it; I simply began to sew…
suddenly, it became clear - in a world falling apart at the seams, the best thing I could do at the moment was to pick up a needle and start stitching it back together - envisioning a new world, one sacred thread at a time.
by using reclaimed garments and fabrics, I could help prevent them from ending up in landfills. The thread, the craft, and the art—all intertwined into a spell that would help restore our connections with our world, our communities, and even ourselves. This craft is slow, but it’s something I (we) need right now: handcrafted with love, thoughtfulness, sustainability, purpose, and meaning.
sewing threads of connection through our thoughts, words, relationships, and actions. Yes, it may be a gradual process, but it truly matters! xx - kira
